Rafayel: Combat Rotation Guide

AoE burn specialist — spread fire, control space, and melt grouped enemies.

Playstyle: Rafayel is the best AoE specialist in the game. His damage multiplies with the number of enemies — more targets = exponentially more damage. Against single targets, he's average. Against 3+ grouped enemies, he's unmatched.

Core Rotation

Rafayel's rotation changes based on target count. Single target: Auto x4 → Flame Whip (hold attack) → Resonance → Auto x3. The Flame Whip applies a burn DoT that ticks for 8s. Always keep burn applied on the target — it enables your Inferno Blaze 4-pc passive (burn ticks have +35% CRIT).

Multi-target (3+): Auto x2 → Flame Whip (hits all enemies in a 120-degree cone) → Resonance (cleaves all burning targets) → Swap. Resonance on burning targets creates a fire spread — each burning target takes splash damage equal to 20% of the initial hit to nearby enemies. This chain reaction is why Rafayel dominates add-heavy floors.

Positioning

Rafayel is a mid-range fighter (3-6m). His Flame Whip reaches farther than melee attacks but not as far as ranged. Stay at a distance where you can hit multiple enemies with the whip cone. Against single targets, stay closer (3m) for consistent hits. Rafayel has the lowest base DEF of any operative — do not facetank hits.

Burn Management

Burn ticks for 8% ATK per second for 8 seconds (64% total). CRIT burns deal 200% tick damage. Inferno Blaze 4-pc gives burn ticks +35% CRIT chance. Aim for 75%+ CRIT rate — with the set bonus, your burn ticks will effectively have 100%+ CRIT. Each burn CRIT spreads fire to one nearby enemy. In add waves, one Resonance can chain-spread burn to the entire group.

Memory and Protocore Optimization

Rafayel's best memory set is Inferno Blaze, which grants the 4-piece passive that gives burn ticks +35% CRIT chance. The priority substats for Rafayel are CRIT Rate (aim for 75%+ to maximize the Inferno Blaze passive), ATK% (scales all burn damage), and CRIT DMG (multiplies burn CRIT ticks). Energy Recharge is less important for Rafayel because his Resonance cooldown is already the shortest at 12 seconds. Flat DEF and flat HP substats are completely wasted on Rafayel — his base DEF is the lowest in the game, making percentage DEF still useful but flat DEF negligible.

For protocore slots, Rafayel needs Fire Damage Bonus on the bottom-right slot as his highest priority. The remaining slots should prioritize CRIT Rate until the 75% threshold is met, then CRIT DMG. HP percentage on the top-left slot is recommended over ATK percentage because Rafayel's burn damage scales with his ATK stat but his survivability depends on having enough HP to survive hits while at mid-range. A Rafayel with 20k HP can survive two boss hits. A Rafayel with 15k HP dies in one hit from most Abyss floor 10+ bosses.

Team Synergy and Swap Timing

Rafayel's optimal team composition pairs him with Xavier for single-target cleanup and Zayne for sustain. The team rotation is: open with Rafayel for AoE burn spread on adds, swap to Xavier for the elite enemy while the burn DoT continues ticking on the adds, then swap to Zayne for healing if the team's HP drops below 60%. This rotation maximizes damage uptime by leveraging Rafayel's passive burn damage even while he is not the active operative.

Swap timing with Rafayel differs from other operatives. Unlike Sylus who wants to stay active to build Dark Energy stacks, Rafayel can swap out immediately after applying burn stacks because the burn damage continues ticking whether he is active or not. The optimal swap window is right after a Flame Whip application — the burn ticks for a full 8 seconds regardless of Rafayel's presence. Use these 8-second windows to deal damage with your other operatives, then swap back to Rafayel when the burn is about to expire to reapply.

Pro Tip: Use Rafayel on Abyss floors with add waves (Floor 6 twins, Floor 9 double elite, Floor 10 adds). He can clear adds in 2-3 seconds while other operatives take 10-15 seconds. His weakness is single-target DPS checks — swap to Xavier or Sylus for those floors.

Summary: AoE burn king. Keep burn applied always. Use Flame Whip cone for multi-target. Fire spread chains from burn CRITs. Mid-range positioning. Weak in single-target — swap for boss DPS checks.
