Sylus: Combat Rotation Guide

Sustained pressure, execute chaining, and stealth — Sylus is the most complex operative to master.

Playstyle: Sylus is a sustained-pressure DPS with unique execute mechanics. Unlike Xavier (burst) or Zayne (hybrid), Sylus wants to stay on the field as long as possible, stacking Dark Energy and chaining executes. His damage ramps up over time — the longer the fight, the more he outpaces other operatives.

Core Rotation

Sylus's rotation is flexible — it changes based on energy level and boss HP. The standard opener: Stealth → Backstab (400% DMG) → Auto x4 → Resonance → Auto x2 → Resonance. Use Stealth to initiate every engagement. The Backstab bonus is huge and guaranteed if you attack from behind within 2s of entering stealth.

Execute threshold: When an enemy is below 30% HP, Sylus's Resonance deals bonus execute damage (scales with missing HP, up to +100% at 5% HP). Against bosses, prioritize bringing the boss to execute range before using your ultimate. If the boss is above 30%, auto-attack to build energy. If below 30%, use Resonance immediately.

Dark Energy Management

Sylus generates Dark Energy stacks from: Backstab (+2), Resonance hit (+3), Perfect Dodge (+1). At 5 stacks, your next Resonance consumes all stacks for +25% bonus damage. At 10 stacks (cap), +50%. The 10-stack Resonance is your biggest damage spike — plan around it. Against bosses, you can hit 10 stacks in roughly 15 seconds with optimal play.

Positioning

Sylus is a melee-range fighter. Stay within 2m of the target at all times. His auto-attacks have the shortest range of any operative. Use Stealth to close gaps and reposition behind the boss. Stealth has a 12s cooldown — use it on cooldown for the Dark Energy stacks even if you don't need to reposition.

Memory and Protocore Build

Sylus's optimal memory set is Dark Champion, granting the execute reset mechanic that defines his end-game playstyle. Without Dark Champion, Sylus is a B-tier damage dealer. With it, he becomes S-tier. The priority substats for Sylus are Energy Recharge (enables more frequent Resonance usage), ATK% (scales all abilities), and CRIT Rate (enables execute CRITs). CRIT DMG is less important for Sylus because his execute damage is percentage-based and does not CRIT — only his normal Resonance and auto-attacks benefit from CRIT stats.

For protocore configuration, Sylus needs Energy Recharge on his bottom-right slot as a higher priority than elemental damage. The execute mechanic is so powerful that having it available more frequently outweighs the damage increase from a Dark Damage Bonus protocore. Test this yourself: run a floor with Energy Recharge and time how many executes you get. Then run the same floor with Dark Damage Bonus. In most scenarios, the extra execute from Energy Recharge results in a faster clear time despite lower damage per hit.

Advanced Combat Techniques

Canceling animations is essential for maximizing Sylus's damage output. The Stealth ability animation can be canceled after the fade-out but before the reappearance. Press the basic attack button during the fade-out animation and Sylus will skip the reappearance animation, going directly into a Backstab attack. This cancel saves approximately 0.5 seconds per Stealth use, which translates to an extra auto-attack chain over a 60-second fight.

Resonance skill animation can also be canceled by swapping operatives immediately after the damage number appears. The damage registers at the start of the animation, but the full animation takes 1 second to complete. Swapping after the damage number registers but before the animation finishes allows you to deal full Resonance damage while your next operative starts attacking 0.7 seconds earlier. This technique is especially valuable during execute windows where every second counts toward killing the boss before an enrage timer expires.

Dark Energy stacks give 5% Resonance damage per stack, max 10 stacks for 50% bonus. Stacks decay at 1 per 3 seconds without combat. Use Resonance before phase transitions to spend stacks rather than losing them.

Pro Tip: Sylus's Perfect Dodge refunds 15% Resonance Energy (with Dark Champion set). If you can consistently perfect dodge, you can maintain near-100% Resonance uptime. Practice the timing on the training dummy — dodge the dummy's attack just before it hits.

Summary: Sustained pressure fighter. Open with Stealth + Backstab. Stack Dark Energy to 10 for +50% Resonance. Execute below 30% HP. Perfect dodge for energy refund. Melee range always.
