Xavier: Combat Rotation Guide

How to play Xavier — optimal combos, burst windows, and position management.

Playstyle: Xavier is a burst-oriented DPS who excels at quick in-and-out engagements. His damage comes from precisely timed Resonance and Ardent Oath windows. Unlike Sylus (sustained pressure) or Rafayel (AoE control), Xavier wants to build energy, dump everything in a 4-second window, then reset.

Core Rotation

The standard Xavier rotation: Auto x3 → Hold Attack (Charged Strike) → Resonance → Auto x2 → Swap Cancel. The Charged Strike after 3 autos has the best damage-per-frame ratio. Resonance should always be used immediately when available — it resets your auto-attack chain. After Resonance, do 2 quick autos then swap to your second operative to cancel recovery frames.

Ardent Oath timing: Use Oath immediately after a Resonance crit. The Light Seeker 4-pc bonus gives +30% CRIT DMG for 4s after Resonance — your Oath should land in this window. If you don't have Light Seeker, use Oath whenever the boss is staggered for the +20% damage bonus.

Positioning

Xavier is most effective at close-mid range (2-5m). His Charged Strike has a narrow hitbox — you need to be facing the target directly. Stay close enough to land Charged Strikes consistently but far enough to see telegraphs. Against mobile bosses, Xavier struggles — use Sylus instead if the boss teleports frequently.

Advanced Tech

Light Dash: After Charged Strike, tap dodge forward. Xavier dashes through the target and lands behind them. Use this to reposition behind bosses during their attack animations. Resonance Cancel: You can swap during the last 0.3s of Xavier's resonance animation to cancel recovery. This tightens your rotation by ~0.5s. Energy Bank: If the boss is about to phase (untargetable), hold your Resonance. Use it immediately when the boss becomes targetable again — your full rotation is ready.

Memory and Protocore Recommendations

Xavier's best memory set is Light Seeker, with Lightning Assault as a strong alternative if you cannot complete Light Seeker. The priority substats are CRIT Rate until 70% (65% with the self-buff), then CRIT DMG. ATK% is valuable but secondary — Xavier's damage multipliers on his Resonance skill are high enough that CRIT stats provide more total damage than ATK% per substat roll. Energy Recharge is the lowest priority substat because Xavier generates energy faster than any other operative through his multi-hit basic attacks.

For protocore configuration, Xavier needs CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on Slot 2 depending on which stat is lower. Slot 5 should be CRIT DMG main stat. Slot 4 can be either ATK% or Light DMG — Light DMG pulls ahead by approximately 5% when your CRIT stats are at target thresholds. The bottom-right protocore (Slot 4) is the most important to farm first because the main stat choice between ATK% and Light DMG has the largest impact on Xavier's damage output among all protocore decisions.

Team Synergy and Support Pairing

Xavier pairs best with Zayne as his support. Zayne's shields allow Xavier to play aggressively at close-mid range without fear of taking damage during his burst windows. Zayne's Frost element also provides coverage against enemies that resist Light damage. The third slot should be Sylus for his execute capability — Xavier brings enemies to low HP efficiently through his burst windows, and Sylus finishes them with execute. This Xavier-Zayne-Sylus composition is one of the strongest general-purpose teams in the game.

Rafayel is a suboptimal pairing with Xavier because both are primary DPS operatives who compete for field time and energy resources. If you use Xavier and Rafayel on the same team, you will have one underutilized operative at all times. A better composition for Xavier teams is Xavier (main DPS), Zayne (support), and a flex operative that can provide off-field damage or utility. Sylus provides execute pressure. An alternative third slot is a second support operative for survival-heavy content where Xavier needs sustained healing rather than burst windows.

Xavier's Charged Strike has two levels. Level 1 (0.5s charge) deals 150% damage and stuns non-bosses. Level 2 (1.5s charge) deals 300% but removes stun. Use Level 1 for general combat, Level 2 only against immobile bosses.

Practice Drill: Go to a training dummy. Do: Auto x3 → Charged Strike → Resonance → Auto x2 → Swap. Repeat for 2 minutes without pausing. Target: complete one rotation in under 4 seconds.

Summary: Burst-and-reset playstyle. Lead with Charged Strike. Resonance resets auto chain. Oath in CRIT DMG window. Swap cancel recovery. Maintain 2-5m range.
