Zayne: Combat Rotation Guide

Hybrid DPS/Support — shield, freeze, and HP-scaling sustain loops.

ENTRY_#0412026.06.30OPERATIVE_GUIDE

Playstyle: Zayne is the only hybrid operative — he deals damage while keeping the team alive. His unique mechanic converts HP into both shields and damage. Unlike Xavier (burst) or Sylus (execute), Zayne wins through attrition — he outlasts the enemy while maintaining steady DPS.

Core Rotation

Zayne's rotation prioritizes shield maintenance: Auto x3 → Frost Strike (hold attack) → Resonance → Shield Refresh → Auto x3. The Shield Refresh is a manual activation (tap shield button) when your shield drops below 50%. Never let your shield break — losing it resets your HP-scaling damage bonus for 3 seconds.

Frost Strike after 3 autos applies a 2s slow to the target. Use this to control boss positioning. Resonance applies a 1s freeze to non-boss enemies and deals bonus damage to frozen targets. Against bosses, Resonance still applies a slow effect (30% movement speed reduction for 3s).

HP Management

Zayne's damage scales with max HP. Each point of HP above 20,000 gives +0.05% damage bonus (capped at 50% bonus at 30,000 HP). His shield also scales with HP — 35% of max HP as shield strength. Stack HP on memories (slot 1 and 3 main stats) but don't neglect CRIT — without CRIT, your HP-scaling is wasted.

Healing priority: Zayne's Resonance heals the active operative for 15% of Zayne's max HP. Use Resonance when your team is below 70% HP — the heal is significant. His Ardent Oath also provides a party-wide shield for 20% of Zayne's max HP for 8 seconds. Time Oath before heavy boss attacks.

Team Synergy

Zayne pairs best with: Xavier (Light Seeker) — your shields reduce Xavier's need to dodge, letting him maintain DPS uptime. Rafayel — your freeze sets up his burn spread (burned frozen targets take +25% damage). Sylus — your sustain lets Sylus stay in melee range longer.

Protocore Configuration by Role

Zayne's protocore setup changes depending on whether you build him as a hybrid support or a pure DPS. For hybrid support (recommended for most content), Slot 2 and Slot 5 should have HP% as the main stat, Slot 4 should have Frost DMG, and all other slots should prioritize HP% substats. The stat target is 35,000 HP, 55% CRIT Rate, and 130% CRIT DMG. In this configuration, Zayne shields for approximately 12,000 HP per skill use while dealing competitive damage through HP scaling.

For pure DPS Zayne (viable only with a second dedicated support operative on the team), swap Slot 2 to CRIT Rate main stat and reduce HP target to 28,000. The stat target shifts to 65% CRIT Rate and 160% CRIT DMG. This configuration loses approximately 30% shield strength but gains roughly 25% personal damage output. The pure DPS build is best suited for time-attack modes where survivability is less important than clear speed. Most players should stick with the hybrid build for its flexibility across content types.

Advanced Shield Timing Techniques

Zayne's shield skill has two activation modes: tap (instant shield at 60% strength) and hold (1-second cast for full 100% strength shield followed by a brief recovery animation). In most combat situations, tap activation is safer and more efficient. The hold activation should only be used during boss attack downtime windows when you can safely complete the 1-second cast. Using hold activation during combat leaves you vulnerable for the cast duration and can result in taking damage that negates the shield advantage.

Shield refresh timing is critical for maintaining Zayne's damage bonus. The HP-scaling damage bonus persists for 3 seconds after the shield breaks. You have a 3-second window to refresh your shield without losing the damage bonus. The optimal rotation is: shield breaks → continue attacking for 2 seconds → refresh shield at 1 second remaining → the damage bonus never drops. With practice, this 3-second refresh window becomes automatic and effectively removes the damage penalty from shield management entirely.

Key Insight: Zayne is the only operative who can solo-carry sustain-heavy floors (Floor 8). His self-healing, shields, and HP-scaling damage make him uniquely suited for content where other operatives would die to DoT. If you're stuck on a survival floor, bring Zayne.

Summary: Hybrid sustain fighter. Maintain shield above 50%. Stack HP to 30k for 50% damage bonus. Use Resonance for healing. Freeze to control and set up combos. Pairs with everyone.
