The stage is on fire, and the phantom controls the flames. Phantom Rafayel burns the arena, then burns you.
The Core Insight: Phantom Rafayel is an area denial boss. It doesn't chase you 閳?it makes the arena unlivable and forces you to come to it. Flame walls, burn zones, and persistent AoE effects shrink your safe space over time. This is a positioning boss: if you're standing in the wrong place for 3 seconds, you've lost half your HP.
Phantom Rafayel is a Flame-element humanoid boss focused on AoE control and sustained damage. It is the fourth Phantom boss and considered the most punishing for players who don't respect area mechanics. The arena gradually fills with fire, and the phantom's attacks become more aggressive as space runs out.
Tell: Phantom Rafayel sweeps its arm in a wide arc. Fire coalescing in front of it. 0.8s cast.
Behavior: Fires a 120-degree cone of flame dealing 200% ATK and applying Burn (40% ATK tick, 3 ticks). The flame cone lingers on the ground for 4 seconds dealing 30% ATK per second to anyone standing in it.
Dodge: Dodge to the side (perpendicular to the cone). Do not dodge backward 閳?the cone has long range and the lingering fire will catch you.
Counter: After the cone, the phantom is stationary for 1s. Zayne's Frost Bolt during this window applies Frostbite and cancels the phantom's next attack.
Tell: Phantom Rafayel crouches and leaves a trail of fire as it dashes in a straight line.
Behavior: Dashes 3 times in quick succession, each dash leaving a fire trail that lasts 6 seconds (dealing 30% ATK per second). The dashes cover approximately 60% of the arena by the end.
Strategy: Do not chase the phantom through its fire trails. Let it come to you. Position yourself in the unburnt section of the arena. The phantom always returns to the center after the third dash.
Tell: Phantom Rafayel rises into the air, arms spread. The entire arena floor glows orange. 2s cast.
Behavior: Deals 500% ATK to all enemies. All existing fire trails and flame zones explode for an additional 200% ATK. After the explosion, new fire zones appear covering 40% of the arena floor (random pattern).
Dodge: There is no safe zone during the initial blast. Use Zayne's Glacial Barrier or iframe the damage at 1.5s. Immediately after the blast, identify the new fire-free zones and move there.
Counter: The phantom is vulnerable during the 2s cast. Xavier's Light's Judgment deals bonus damage (Light element). If you can stagger the phantom during the cast, the ultimate is cancelled.
Behavior: If you have 3 stacks of Burn (from any source), the phantom can detonate them with any attack, dealing 300% ATK instantly and removing the Burn stacks. This triggers even if you're at max range.
Strategy: Avoid getting 3 Burn stacks. If you reach 2 stacks, play defensively until they expire (4s). Zayne naturally avoids Burn because Frost element doesn't stack burn 閳?another reason Zayne is the best pick.
Phase 1 (100%-50%): Flame Strike + Blaze Dash cycle. The phantom creates 2 fire trails per dash phase. Arena coverage: ~30% after full cycle.
Phase 2 (50%-20%): Gains Inferno (ultimate). Uses it once per 40s. Blaze Dash now creates 4 dashes instead of 3. Arena coverage increases to ~50% per cycle. The phantom gains a flame shield (similar to Zayne's but weaker 閳?50% damage reduction instead of 80%).
Phase 3 (20%-0%) 閳?Enrage: Permanent flame aura around the phantom (deals 20% ATK per second in melee range). Blaze Dash leaves double-width fire trails. Inferno has no cooldown. Arena becomes nearly completely covered in fire 閳?you'll be standing on fire no matter what. Survival becomes a race against your own HP bar.
Why: Frost element is the boss's weakness (+30% damage). Freeze prevents the phantom from using Blaze Dash (no dash = no fire trails). Frost Bolt does not apply Burn 閳?you will never trigger Burn Detonation. Zayne trivializes this fight's mechanics.
Memory: Permafrost Covenant (A-tier). Freeze duration +2s and spread.
Why: Crystal Resonance with Zayne provides defense shred. Xavier's ranged attacks let him DPS safely from outside flame zones. Light's Judgment can stagger the phantom during Inferno cast.
Memory: Stellar Contract (S-tier). ATK buff.
Tip #1 閳?Control the Arena: Phantom Rafayel is a positioning fight. Before the fight starts, identify a "safe rotation path" 閳?a circuit of the arena that avoids fire trails. During the fight, move in a circle around the arena edge, never staying in one place for more than 3 seconds.
Tip #2 閳?Freeze Cancels Dash: Zayne's Frost Bolt freeze interrupts the phantom's Blaze Dash mid-animation. If you freeze the phantom during the first dash, the remaining dashes are cancelled. This significantly reduces arena fire coverage.
Tip #3 閳?Track Burn Stacks: Never let your Burn stacks reach 3. The detonation deals 300% ATK and cannot be dodged. At 2 stacks, stop attacking and focus on dodging for 4 seconds until the Burn expires. Zayne players don't need to worry about this 閳?another reason to bring Frost.
Tip #4 閳?Phase 3 = Circle the Arena: When the enrage starts, stop trying to DPS effectively. Your only goal is to survive. Circle the arena edge continuously. The phantom's flame aura only covers melee range 閳?stay at max range with Xavier and poke.
Mistake #1: Standing in fire trails. A single fire trail deals 30% HP per second. Standing in 2 trails simultaneously = 60% HP per second = death in under 2 seconds. Always move away from fire trails immediately. No amount of DPS is worth standing in fire.
Mistake #2: Chasing the phantom through fire. Phantom Rafayel dashes THROUGH fire. If you chase it, you run through its fire trails. Let the phantom come to you 閳?it always returns to center after dashing. Position yourself in the clean zone and wait.
Mistake #3: Bringing Rafayel or Sylus. Phantom Rafayel resists Flame (-20%) AND applies Burn. Rafayel's Burn-based kit is completely countered by this boss. Sylus's Dark element is neutral but he offers no fire mitigation. Zayne (Frost) is mandatory for comfortable clears.
Mistake #4: Ignoring the passive flame aura in Phase 3. The phantom's 20% HP per second melee aura means you cannot stand next to it. If you're melee range in Phase 3, you're taking constant unavoidable damage. Switch to ranged play 閳?Xavier's projectiles or Zayne's Frost Bolt from distance.
The Bottom Line: Phantom Rafayel is the most positioning-dependent fight in the game. The arena slowly fills with fire, and your safe space shrinks with every Blaze Dash. Bring Zayne to freeze the dashes and avoid Burn entirely. Circle the arena. Never stand in fire. Never chase the phantom through trails. And in the enrage, survival is victory 閳?stay at range, avoid the aura, and let your Frost DoT finish the job.
