Energy Recharge engine. More ults = more damage. Sylus breaks the normal rotation rules.
Core Identity: Sylus is an Energy Recharge priority DPS. His execute scales with ultimate frequency. More Energy Recharge = more executes = more damage. CRIT is secondary until ER breakpoints are met.
Stat Targets: Energy Recharge 145%+ | CRIT Rate 50%+ | CRIT DMG 120%+ | ATK 2,500+
Most DPS characters prioritize CRIT stats above all else, but Sylus breaks this rule because his execute mechanic deals percentage-based damage that does not CRIT. This means investing in CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG only improves his non-execute damage, which represents roughly 40% of his total output in end-game content. Every point of Energy Recharge, on the other hand, increases his ultimate frequency, which directly translates to more executes. The math is straightforward: 10% additional Energy Recharge equals approximately 8% more total damage for Sylus, while 10% additional CRIT DMG equals approximately 3% more total damage.
The 145% Energy Recharge breakpoint exists because Sylus's energy regeneration from passive sources (basic attacks, taking damage, perfect dodges) combined with 145% ER allows his ultimate to charge in exactly three ability rotations. Below 145%, you need four rotations. This one-rotation difference means you execute 33% less frequently over the course of a boss fight. The difference between a Sylus with 140% ER and a Sylus with 145% ER is not 5% — it is a 33% difference in execute frequency. Hit this breakpoint before considering any other stat.
Building Sylus requires targeting specific protocore slots that can roll Energy Recharge as a main stat. Slot 2 and Slot 5 are the only slots where ER can appear as a main stat. Prioritize farming these two slots above all others. A Slot 2 protocore with ER main stat and any useful substat is worth keeping even if all substats are suboptimal — the main stat is what matters. Slot 4 should ideally roll Dark DMG as the main stat, but ATK% is an acceptable substitute if Dark DMG is unavailable.
The substat hierarchy for Sylus differs from standard DPS builds. ER substats are valuable even after reaching the 145% breakpoint because they allow flexibility in your equipment setup. If you overcap ER through substats, you can replace an ER main stat piece with an ATK% piece while maintaining the breakpoint. This flexibility makes ER substats on non-ER pieces more valuable than CRIT substats in most cases. When farming protocores, do not salvage a piece with ER substats even if the main stat is wrong — it may become useful on a different slot later.
At 145% ER, Sylus generates 7.25 energy per basic attack, 29 per Resonance, and 43.5 per Ardent Oath. He needs 100 energy for his ultimate. Four rotations generate one ultimate at this breakpoint.
Key Insight: Sylus's execute refunds 30% of its energy cost on kill. With 145% ER, you can chain executes on add waves indefinitely. The 145% breakpoint is non-negotiable — below it, Sylus feels clunky. Above it, he's the best wave-clearer in the game.
Summary: Energy Recharge is king. Get 145% ER before investing in any other stat. Void Walker 4-pc is irreplaceable. Sylus breaks the normal DPS rules — more uls = more damage, not bigger ults.
