Core Identity: Zayne scales with HP for both damage and shields. He's a hybrid — build for equal parts survivability and damage. His shields scale harder with HP than with DEF.

Icebreaker (2-pc) + HP (2-pc)
+15% Frost DMG + +18% HP. More damage-focused variant.
Use for: Speed clears, lower content

Stat Targets: HP 35,000+ | CRIT Rate 55%+ | CRIT DMG 130%+ | Energy Recharge 115%

HP Scaling Mechanics Explained

Zayne's unique scaling mechanic makes him the most stat-efficient operative in the game. His shield skill absorbs damage equal to 25% of his max HP, and his healing skill restores 15% of his max HP over its duration. This means every point of HP serves triple duty: it increases his survivability directly, increases his shield strength, and increases his healing output. No other operative gets this level of stat efficiency. A Zayne with 35,000 HP has an effective HP pool of approximately 43,000 HP when factoring in his shield, making him significantly tankier than his base HP suggests.

The HP scaling also applies to Zayne's damage output through his Frostguard Protocol set bonus. The 4-piece set converts 5% of max HP into bonus Frost damage on each attack. At 35,000 HP, this provides 1,750 bonus damage per hit — equivalent to approximately 15% additional ATK. This conversion means HP% substats provide both survivability and damage simultaneously, while ATK% substats only provide damage. In any slot where you must choose between HP% and ATK%, HP% is the mathematically superior choice for Zayne by approximately 20% total value.

Build Variations by Content Type

Zayne's build flexibility allows him to fill multiple roles depending on your team's needs. For Abyss content where sustain is critical, use the Frostguard Protocol 4-piece with full HP% main stats on all six slots. This configuration prioritizes shield strength and healing output over damage, enabling your DPS operatives to play aggressively without worrying about their HP. In this build, Zayne's personal damage contribution drops to roughly 60% of a damage-focused build, but the team's total damage output increases because your DPS can maintain uptime.

For boss fights where the team has dedicated healing support, switch to the Icebreaker 2-piece combined with an HP% 2-piece set. This configuration trades approximately 15% shield strength for 15% Frost damage bonus. Slot 4 should use Frost DMG as the main stat instead of HP% to maximize damage output. The stat targets shift to CRIT Rate 65%+ and CRIT DMG 150%+, with HP dropping to 30,000 as an acceptable minimum. This build transforms Zayne from a pure support into a hybrid damage dealer who still provides meaningful shielding.

At 115% ER, Zayne's shield has 3-second downtime. At 125% ER, permanent shield uptime. At 135% ER, shield can be used reactively. The 125% breakpoint doubles his effective HP through permanent shielding.

Key Insight: Zayne's healing and shield both scale off max HP, not ATK. HP% substats are worth more than ATK% for him. A 35k HP Zayne shields for 8k+ per skill — that's effectively +8k HP per rotation. He's the best sustain operative in the game.

Summary: HP% is Zayne's primary stat — it feeds both his damage and his shields. Frostguard 4-pc is the best general set. Don't build him like a standard DPS; embrace the HP scaling. 35k HP breakpoint is critical.
